THE SEVEN MITZVOS OF KOVOD HATORAH 5772

The S’mag writes that there are 620 letters in the Aseres Hadibros. The first 613 letters correspond to the 613 mitzvos. The last 7 letters correspond to the seven Rabbinic mitzvos which are 1) seven days of avilus 2) the seven days of simchas chassan and kallah 3) netilas yadayim 4) pas akum 5) the joining of different domains “reshuyos” through the airuv 6) megillah 7) hadlakas ner Chanukah. The Chasam Soffer goes even further to demonstrate how the last 7 letters  אשר לרעך actually correspond to these seven mitzvos.

MATAN TORAH AND TU BISHVAT 5771

Before Matan Torah, Hashem commanded Moshe Rabbeinu to tell the Yidden that they should fence themselves from ascending the mountain when the Shechina descends upon it. This was called the mitzvah of hagbalah. Secondly, they were instructed to separate from cohabitation with their wives in order to bring about a greater kedusha fitting for this momentous event. However, we find that Moshe reports back to Hashem only their acceptance of the mitzvah of hagbalah and not of their acceptance of the mitzvah of separation between husband and wife.

Bringing Out Your I

The Apple Computer Company just recently released a new technology called the I Pad. Up until this point they brought us the I Pod the I Touch the I Phone and now the I Pad. Apple surely realizes that all these new technologies purposely being named with the first letter “I” will cause their sales to climb off the charts. After all who doesn’t have a self interest and does not want to possess a gadget that professes to bring out your I?
