PINCHUS AND ENTITLEMENT 5771

Concerning Pinchu’s self sacrifice to sanctify Hashem’s name and terminate the plague of death that permeated Klal Yisrael, the Torah says הנני נותן לו את בריתי שלום.  Upon which the Medrash remarks בדין הוא שיטול שכרו that it is just that he should receive his reward. This statement is of course referring to the gemarrah in Kiddushin 39 that states that it is impossible to reward someone for his fulfillment of even the smallest mitzvah with this physical and material world. Reward for mitzvos is exclusively reserved for Olam Habah.

Pinchus – Impetuousness And The Yomim Tovim

On this past fast day I came up with a new understanding to the inner meaning of its name. The sin of the aigel and the breaking of the luchos which happened on the 17th of Tammuz was described in the Torah as וירא העם כי בשש משה the people saw that Moshe tarried and was delayed. The Chazal say that the word  בשש  means בא שש the sixth hour came and Moshe did not of yet come.
