The Rundown on Worms

First it was the halachic controversy of worms residing in the fish that made headlines in the Jewiish news. In this week’s parsha we also have a reference specifically to worms. The Torah says that when all the creatures left the ark they left with their families upon which the Medrash says and not them. Rav Yehaya Pik explains this comment of Chazal with a  gemarrah that says a creature that does not have a spine cannot live more than twelve months. If so how did the worm survive in the Ark since they were there over twelve months?

Three Made This World

The entire world as we see and live in it today evolved through three individuals Shem Cham and Yafes [9,19]. Each one of Noach's sons possessed a particular trait which he bequeathed to his descendents and their established cultures, all of which can be traced in their very names. Shem means name, a definition of an object or being. The Maharal says that the letters of "shaim" share the exact letters of "sham" which means there. It is the shaim of an object that defines the sham the essence of the object itself.
