Beha'aloscha

SHAVUOS AND THE WELLSPRINGS OF TORAH 5771

The Torah mentions the word be’air [spring] 48 times. The sefarim write that this number corresponds to the 48 ways necessary to acquire Torah as it states in Pirkei Avos in the sixth perek. Why is Torah symbolized in a be’ari? Well the simple interpretation would be that Torah is compared to water which is a basic element of life giving forces. Water from a be’air is called mayim chayim in contrast to water from a well that comes from the outside and has not its source.

Menorah 5771

The parsha begins with the constructing of the Menorah. It was required to be built in the form of מקשה  which means beaten out of one piece of gold. Let us examine the messages to be gleaned from this necessity. Our first interpretation is based on a Pesach story from Rav Chaim of Brisk. It was known that their family was very diligent and exacting in the baking of the matzos to the “enth” degree regarding their kashrus. One time after baking all the matzos an accident happened in the transporting of them and most of them were broken.
